A Message from the Head of School

Welcome to Gann Academy – The New Jewish High School of Greater Boston.

As you explore this site, you have the opportunity to get a glimpse of the life and the spirit of our community. In my first year as Head of School, I am inspired by the talent, energy and dedication of the people - students, teachers, administrators and staff who are innovative, passionate and committed to excellence - who make Gann the remarkable place that it is.

Gann Academy is not just any Jewish high school. We are preparing our students to be both participants in and transformers of their Jewish communities as well as American society; and, our graduates are grounded by a deep sense of Jewish values and Jewish history, as well as strong commitment to Jewish identity and to Klal Yisrael (the Jewish People). As a pluralistic Jewish high school, our students come from a broad spectrum of Jewish backgrounds, beliefs and practices – from students who have spent nine years in a Reform, Conservative or Orthodox Jewish elementary school to students whose families are not affiliated with a particular movement or do not belong to a synagogue. Whether in a classroom, a school-wide debate, an ethics lab, or an interactive presentation from an exciting guest speaker, students with different perspectives and experiences regularly have opportunities to learn together and respectfully challenge each other.

High school is an amazing time of life - a time when students’ minds, bodies and souls need to be nurtured and engaged. When I sit in on classes, when I attend our sporting events and plays, when I walk through our art gallery and our science labs, I am excited by the range and depth of opportunities Gann provides for students with different talents, interests, and intellects to take risks and develop self-confidence by pursuing excellence and experiencing success in their own ways. And I am proud that life-long friendships and a powerful Gann community make our school a safe and supportive environment in which students grow and learn together.

I hope you enjoy the virtual Gann experience, and I invite you to visit us and our campus, and to learn more, first hand, about our special community.

B’Shalom,
Rabbi Marc Baker
