Who is an ideal Gann Academy candidate?
As a school committed to diversity, we value a varied student body. There is no ONE ideal Gann type of student. Nevertheless, we do look for some key characteristics in our prospective students. Are you curious? Are you excited about building relationships? Are you passionate? Do you have a sense of humor? A sense of adventure? If you answered yes to any of those questions, we want to meet you. If you're not sure, the only way you'll know if we are the right fit is by introducing yourself to us!
Where do Gann students come from?
Our students come from all over the Greater Boston area and even as far as Mexico, Italy, Switzerland and Israel. Students travel to school from as far north as New Hampshire, as far south as Stoughton, MA, and as far west as Holden, MA. Gann offers busing options for students in the Newton/Brookline, South Shore and North Shore areas. For more information, see our Student Transportation page.
What is religious life like at Gann?
As a pluralistic Jewish school, Gann offers a variety of opportunities for students to explore and engage in Jewish life. Each day, students are given the opportunity to celebrate in their own tradition, but as they participate in shabbatonim, celebrate holidays, and give back to our community, they are exposed to various models of passionate, committed Jewish life. In addition to these opportunities, Rabbi David Jaffe works closely with each student to support his or her spiritual journey.
Do students need previous knowledge of Hebrew to attend Gann Academy?
No, nearly 30 percent of our students come from either public school or secular independent school with a limited Judaic studies background. We have a mechinah (preparatory) track for students who previously did not attend Jewish day school, where they essentially learn Hebrew, Bible, and Talmud (Rabbinics) from the beginning.
  What are my extracurricular options?

Gann offers a wide array of extracurricular opportunities for students who have a variety of interests and talents. For a full listing of opportunities, see the Arts & Athletics section of this site. Gann also hosts a variety of student clubs focused on a many different hobbies and social action interests. For a full listing of student clubs & organizations, see the Clubs & Organizations section. One of the highlights of our school year is called - Exploration Week. This is a unique program and exciting opportunity for students to choose an adventure in community service, arts, athletics or explore something new.. For a full listing of last year's Exploration Week offerings and highlights from experiences, see the Experiential Learning section of this site.

My older sibling goes to/went to Gann, so I am familiar with the school. Is the process different for me and my family?
Though you may be familiar with Gann through your brother or sister (or even a cousin), it is important for you to explore Gann for yourself. You are still required to come for your initial visit and interview. We encourage your parents to join you on this journey; many current Gann parents have expressed how much they've enjoyed coming back to see the school with their next child . They might also learn something new about Gann too!
How will I transition into a Gann student?
Once students are accepted and confirm their intent to come to Gann, we welcome them on May 4, 2012, for Step Up Day. Step Up Day is a fun-filled day for new students to become better acquainted with the school and their new classmates, get a head start on administrative items, and to just have some fun. In late summer, Gann will host an Orientation just for freshman and all students will participate in an All School Retreat.
How do I schedule a visit?
