Clubs & Organizations

During any given week our students are engaged in a myriad of clubs, organizations, and activities. If interest in a new activity or cause arises in the course of the school year, the students concerned will create a new club or organization to promote it.

Publications

Shevuon Hatichon is a weekly bulletin produced by students that highlights the week's events, sporting results, schedules, Shabbat times, and birthdays as well as articles about upcoming events, Israel updates, a dvar Torah on parashat hashavua , and Spotlight on Gann.

Loose Ends, published once each year, features poetry and prose as well as photographs and drawings by students. An editorial group collects and edits submissions.

Perspectives, the school's literary magazine, is published once each trimester and includes feature articles on topics of interest to the students, as well as movie reviews, sporting news, and interviews. It combines the edginess of a newspaper with the design and in-depth reporting of a magazine.

Yameinu, the school's yearbook, records the highlights of the year at Gann Academy in words and pictures. The editorial staff works throughout the school year and presents a published book in the early fall of the following year.

Israel Commitment

The Israel Awareness Group meets weekly to discuss cultural and political life in Israel. From time to time the committee invites speakers to address an open meeting. These students also participate in Pro-Israel lobbying action and take responsibility for updating the school community on what's gong on in Israel.

Videoconferencing with Ironi Hey High School in Haifa, Israel, takes place bi-weekly during Sicha in the mornings. A total of about 10 to 15 students from Gann Academy and Ironi Hey meet in real time to learn about each other's country and culture, building strong connections via videoconference discussions and lessons.

Student Government

As the united voice and overall governing organization of the student community, the Student Council creates and maintains connections among the students, student organizations, faculty, and administration. The council acts in the best interests of the students, representing their opinions, desires, and needs. Officers and grade representatives are elected annually in February.

Va'ad Hamishpat is a committee designed to give student as well as faculty input into disciplinary actions carried out by the school. Students are elected to serve on the Va'ad, and new elections take place as vacancies arise.
