Junior Year Timeline
The college counseling office STRONGLY recommends taking the SAT I in March, and then taking SAT II subject tests in May and/or June.
October 29, 2008 PSAT Is administered. (In Israel PSAT administered October 27)
January 21, 2009 Students and parents attend the college counseling workshop at the school.
February - May 2009 Students and parents make appointments to meet individually with the college counselor. If possible, visit a few schools over February break. Don’t expect to interview, as college admissions personnel will be busy evaluating senior applications.
  Begin working on personal questionnaires; meet with the college counselor.
  Students and parents should work together to begin researching schools, financial aid options, scholarship programs, alternative year programs, etc. Browse through college websites and guidebooks as well as college course catalogs and brochures. Keep your options open!
January - February 2009 Register for the March 14 (15 for Sunday test takers) SAT I by February 10 or February 24 for late registration.
March - April 2009 Register for May 2 (3 for Sunday test takers) SAT I or SAT II by March 31 or April 9 for late registration.
  Take the SAT I.  (No subject tests are given on March 14 / 15.)
  If possible, visit colleges over Passover break.
  Register for June 6 (7 for Sunday test takers) SAT I or SAT II by May 5 or May 15 for late registration.  * June 6 / 7 is the only date for the Hebrew SAT II subject test. *
  Attend the college fair at Milton Academy in April (exact date DTB)
May 2009 Take the SAT I or SAT II (Hebrew SAT II not offered) on May 2 (3 for Sunday test takers).
  Take AP exams, if applicable.
June 2009 Take the SAT I or SAT II on June 6 (7 for Sunday test takers).
Summer 2009 Visit, research, and think. Try to incorporate college visits into your summer plans and think seriously about what type of schools are appealing. Schedule interviews where appropriate. Write, call, or email colleges that you don’t visit but are interested in, in order to receive information.
Senior Year Timeline

Please remember to tell your college counselor:

  • Any time you decide not to complete an application after having already turned in the Secondary School report (you will save us lots of work).
  • Each time you receive notice of an action taken on one of your applications (not all colleges send copies of decisions to the high school).
Throughout the fall Attend college presentations at Gann Academy and in the Boston area. Ask questions!
  Visit colleges over long weekends; spend a night at the schools at the top of your list.
  Continue to discuss your plans with your college counselor. Try to settle on 6 to 8 colleges.
September 2008 Meet with your college counselor to discuss summer visits, impressions, and thoughts about colleges.
    September 15 and 16 are college visitation days.
  Ask teachers to write your recommendations. Be sure to give them the necessary forms and deadlines.
  Register for the October 4 (5 for Sunday test takers) SAT I or SAT II by September 9 or by September 16 for late registration.
  September 17 attend the College Case Study Night at Gann Academy.
  Request applications and financial aid information from colleges.
  File the CSS PROFILE financial aid form online. If you are applying early decision or early action, start writing your essays.
  October 1, 2008 October 1 Deadline for notifying your counselor if you are applying to an early program with a November 1 deadline.
  October 15, 2008 October 15 Deadline for notifying your counselor if you are applying to an early program with a November 15 deadline.
October 2008 Register for the November 1 (2 for Sunday test takers) SAT I or SAT II by September 26 or October 10 for late registration.
  October 27 is college visitation day.
  Take the SAT I or SAT II on October 4 (5 for Sunday test takers).
October - November 2008 Send your Early Action or Early Decision application, if applicable.
  November 10, 2008 November 10 Deadline for your final list of schools; otherwise, the college counseling office cannot guarantee the timely submission of your transcript and recommendations to colleges. 
    Register for the December 6 (7 for Sunday test takers) SAT I or SAT II by November 5 or November 18 for late registration.
  Rolling admission applicants should send applications as soon as possible.
  Regular admission candidates—start working on your applications early!
November 2008 Take the SAT I or SAT II on November 1 (2 for Sunday test takers).
  Devote some time to thinking about and drafting your college essays.
December 2008 Take the SAT I or SAT II on December 6 (7 for Sunday test takers).
  Register for the January 24 (25 for Sunday test takers) SAT I or SAT II by December 26 or January 6 for late registration.
  Attend the Financial Aid Workshop on December 9 at Cambridge School of Weston.
  EA/ED candidates who have heard should discuss options with their counselor.
  Regular decision candidates should send applications now if they are due between January 1 and January 15.
  Many traditional yeshivot have application deadlines in early December; file these forms if applicable.
January 2009 Take the SAT I or SAT II on January 24 (or 25 for Sunday test takers).
  Submit FAFSA financial aid forms after January 1; adhere to college deadlines.
  Send applications for yeshivot, Israel programs, or other post-high school programs.
  Regular decision candidates should send applications now if they are due between February 1 and February 15.
February 2009 Regular decision candidates should send applications now if they are due March 1 or later.
April 2009 Admission and financial aid decisions rendered by colleges (if they haven't done so already).
  Keep your recommendation-writing teachers posted and thank them!
  Discuss decisions and options with the college counselor.
  Send your acceptance and deposit to the college you decide to attend (even if you will take a year off). Do not, under any circumstances, put down deposits at two colleges.
  Write to all the other colleges that accepted you and politely decline the place offered.
  If you are wait-listed, discuss options with your college counselor.
May 1, 2009 National candidate reply date. By this date, you should be holding a spot at one and only one college.
May - June 2009 If you were originally placed on a wait-list and are now offered a place, inform your college counselor of your intentions.
