George D. Krupp Library
Library Catalog
(on-campus
access only)
Hours:
The library is open Monday through Friday, from the beginning of the first
academic block of the day to the end of the last academic block. The best way
to contact the librarian is by emailing the
Library or calling
x209.
About
us:
Gann Academy recognizes the value of both research materials and the skills
that students need to use such resources effectively, both during high school
and beyond.
The
library is staffed full-time by librarian Julie Koven. She collaborates with
faculty to develop the collection and teach students how to access, evaluate,
and cite relevant resources. The library's collection contains reading and
reference books, periodicals, videos and DVDs, and electronic resources, selected
primarily to support the curriculum. In addition, through interlibrary loan,
students and teachers have access to the resources of several hundred libraries,
including those of various colleges and universities.
The library is a spacious, well-lit space offering carrels and tables for
quiet study as well as rooms for classes, group work, and tutoring. Teachers
and students may reserve these rooms by emailing requests to the librarian.
Internet access is available in the library on eight computers. There are additional
computers in the adjacent computer lab, which can also be used with classes
for hands-on teaching about electronic resources and research skills. The library
also houses a black and white coin-operated copier for student use ($.10 per
page.)
Circulation:
Books circulate for a period of three weeks and may be renewed through the
librarian. Current issues of periodicals and reference books remain in the
library at all times. Reserve books are also for use only in the library
except when written permission from a teacher is given. Some reference/reserve
material may be checked out at the end of the day, due the next morning.
Donations:
We welcome monetary contributions
in honor of a student, teacher, or family member or in memory of a loved one.
The librarian will select books or other materials that support the Gann Academy
mission and curriculum, with input from donors about titles or subject matter.
We also welcome gifts of materials; the librarian will evaluate offered donations
and make selection decisions based on the library's overall needs. Such materials
are accepted on the understanding that the librarian may make all necessary
decisions about their use. Donated materials that prove not to be needed in
the library may be exchanged, sold, or given away. Donors are responsible for
appraising donated items.
