Gann Wins Season Opener
Gann grinds way to season opening victory at Concord Academy, 68-58.
After nearly a month of tryouts and practices, Gann finally got the opportunity to take the court and face an opponent on Tuesday, making the short trip to Concord Academy for its season opener. The first half saw Gann grind its way to a 9 point led two times--only to see both of those leads cut down to one possession--holding just a 2 point lead going into the half. A defensive adjustment made at the half put the brakes on the penetrating guards from Concord, forcing them into contested long range jumpers that could not find the mark with consistency--and forcing Concord into multiple 2nd half turnovers. Offensively, Gann showed its depth in scoring, led by Matt Gluck with 27 points and Yahm Rones with 17. Eli Cole chipped in with 10 points and double digit rebounds and Dan Metser finished with 9 points and controlled the ball with only one turnover against a game long full court Concord press. "Offensively we put up 68--so hard to complain--but I don't think we showed anywhere near what we are truly capable of." said Coach Nole. "Defensively I thought we did a fair to good job throughout--but still lots of room for improvement on that end." Gann immediately returns to action tomorrow vs. CCA and again on Thursday vs. CSW.
