Gann Starts off 2019 with comeback win vs. PCDS
Returning from the extended school break, Gann returned to action in a non-league contest vs. PCDS with a come from behind 77-67 victory.
The effects of the long holiday break showed early on in Gann's return to action today vs. PCDS with what could be generally characterized as a 'sluggish' first half effort by the Gann hoopsters. Despite jumping off to a 7 point lead in the first four minutes, Gann allowed PCDS to not only creep back into the contest but turned the game upside down eventually taking a 13 point lead into the half. With Gann unable to close out effectively on the hot shooting PCDS squad in the first half and also allowing double digit put back points off offensive rebounds, Gann needed to find a spark during the intermission if there would be any chance to jump back into the game. Coming out of the half, Gann switched to a full court press hoping to change the tempo of the game from a half court style game to an up and down, high tempo pace. "We needed to find a way to get their shooters out of rhythm--and something that would wake us up." said Coach Nole. With the high tempo pace Gann was able to shave the lead down to just 3 with 9 minutes to go, and continued to push over the top pushing the lead to over 10 with under 5 minutes to go. PCDS was able to put together another run of their own and got the lead back down to 3 with under two minutes to go, only to see Gann bounce right back and push the lead back to ten thanks to clutch 3 pointers by Dan Metser and Izy Altman-Sagan. The balanced Gann scoring attack was led by Matt Gluck with 23, Sagan with a career best 19, Dan Metser with 18, and Eli Cole with 13. With the victory Gann moves to 5-1 overall heading into its toughest week of action with four games in four days next week.
