Gann Bounces Back with Victory over Concord Academy
After a difficult 22 point loss 24 hours earlier, Gann had no time to dwell on that loss as it faced off vs. Concord Academy Tuesday afternoon at Gann, pulling out a 58-47 victory.
Last night Gann found itself shut down by a strong LCA team, losing by 22, its worst defeat of the season. Just three nights prior, Concord Academy was able to upset LCA, setting the table for what proved to be an uphill battle for the Gann hoopsters in their attempt to avoid its first two-game losing streak of the season. From the tip, it once again looked like the high flying Gann offense, who had been averging near 80 points per game, would be stifled for the second night in a row. With a stagnant offense relying on three pointers that would not fall, Gann found itself down 5 at the half, only able to muster 24 points by the intermission. "The first half was a continuation of the night before," said Coach Nole. "No movement, nothing falling. But unlike last night, at least our defense was playing with energy and keeping us in the contest." Thanks to a defensive adjustment in the 2nd half, Gann was able to hold Concord's hot shooting forward to just two free throws in the second half after scorching the nets for 15 in the first half. Overall Gann was able to hold Concord to just 18 second half points, allowing the offense to gain some momentum and eventually take the lead with ~3 minutes to go. Gann put 7 players into the scoring column with Yahm Rones leading the way with 14. Again, the Gann bench provided great energy with back to back standout performances by sophomores Dan Galper and Eli Gross. The win puts Gann at 12-4 overall including 6-4 in head to head Class C action, and 7-0 in MBIL League standings.
