Gann Welcomes New Faculty

At Gann Academy, faculty serve as both educators and mentors. They are experts in their fields, and they bring unique perspectives to their classroom teaching.

This year, Gann welcomes seven new faculty members to the community, teaching subjects ranging from Engineering to Jewish Studies, and bringing with them a plethora of experience. [Did you know: 90% of Gann faculty have advanced degrees!]

Ruth Castillo is the newest addition to the Computing, Design, and Fabrication (CD&F) department. She has a Masters in Biomedical Engineering from Tufts and, before Gann, worked as a Research and Development Engineer for a green-tech startup. Castillo chose Gann because she wants to help teenagers realize all the things they can do that they never thought would be possible.

Shlomi Zan came to the Hebrew department by way of Israel. With a Masters in Public Policy from Tel Aviv University, Zan has held many education roles and most recently served as principal of The Gordon School in Bat Yam, Israel. He chose Gann because he loves teaching and wanted a school that reflected his personal values and beliefs. In addition to significant teaching experience and a native knowledge of Hebrew, Zan brings a deep understanding of Israeli culture and politics.

Stephanie Hoffman is one of two new faculty in the Jewish Studies department. Before Gann, Hoffman was the Director of Jewish Life at the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, MD. "Pluralistic Jewish education is important to me," said Hoffman when asked why she chose Gann. "Gann is a school where students can engage in important conversations about Jewish identity, belief, and practice."

Gann's other new additions to the faculty include Arts teacher Barrett Grizzard who is subbing for Landa Ruen while she is on maternity leave, Hebrew teacher Elan Cohen, Jewish Studies teacher Rabbi Gavriel Goldfeder, and Biology teacher Jeffrey Molk.
