The conversation happened thanks to David’s persistence. He and his classmates were asked to research an influential individual in the music industry. After reading about Mooney in a Rolling Stone article, David considered reaching out to him for an interview. But he was hesitant.
"I really didn’t believe that the CEO of a corporation worth hundreds of millions of dollars would actually respond," said David. But after encouragement from his teacher Ray Daniels, David decided to reach out, and to his surprise, Mooney replied. An interview was arranged, and the 12 students in Electronic Music asked Mooney a myriad of questions, ranging from Mooney’s experience as a college dropout, to his rise as a successful CEO, to his vision for Fender in the coming years. In addition to speaking about his achievements at Fender, Mooney took the time to discuss his work with Nike and Disney.
