Successful Fall Season for Gann Sports
The boys’ varsity soccer team put an exclamation mark on an undefeated season in November by winning their season’s final match 2-0 against Boston Trinity Academy. In the process, they became the Massachusetts Bay Independent League (MBIL) champions.
“It was a fantastic season,” said senior Jason Bryer, the team’s co-captain. “I am proud of how close a group our team was and how hard we fought. We controlled most of our games and fought to come back when down.” Bryer was one of 10 Gann fall athletes named league all-stars. Bryer and teammate Noam Borensztajn, also a senior, were designated conference all-stars by the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) as well. The team advanced to the NEPSAC post-season playoffs— a huge honor—, and hosted an exciting playoff game at Gann. Ultimately, the Heifers were eliminated in the quarterfinals by the MacDuffie School, but the memories of this championship season will live on.
Other highlights of the fall season:
- The girls’ varsity volleyball team upset higher seed Cambridge School of Weston to advance to the semi-finals of the Independent Girls Conference championship.
- The cross country team finished second place overall at the MBIL championships.
- The boys’ and girls’ JV soccer teams, and the JV volleyball team, competed hard and will play a large role in their programs’ development.
“Sports are an extension of the classroom at Gann, and you’ll find the same values on the field as in the classroom,” said Director of Athletics Brad Ballinger. “As with our teachers, we expect our coaches to create an environment which nurtures success—whether that’s a winning season or a season where everyone worked hard and learned a lot.”
