Jacob Hershman, Class Of 2016
If Jacob Hershman has his way, the University of Pennsylvania will divest its endowment from the fossil fuel industry and play a larger role in fighting climate change.
Jacob '16 is a leader in the college’s Fossil Free Penn (FFP) student group, which has waged a multi-year campaign to convince the University to stop new investments in the fossil fuel industry, remove holdings in the top 200 coal, oil, and natural gas companies, and reinvest a portion of the extricated funds into clean energy.
“I constantly think about the environment and climate change,” said Jacob, who is majoring in English with a minor in environmental studies. “It’s unfortunate that my generation has to think about these things, but it’s the world we’re growing up in.”
