Within Reach: Predictable Tuition for Four Years at Gann

Within Reach offers predictable tuition for four years, scaled to family income, for families who might not qualify for traditional need-based programs.  This program is offered to families with adjusted gross incomes between $175,000 and $500,000 and net assets under $500,000 (excluding primary residence and retirement accounts).

Tuition for Within Reach is based on a specific percent of family income, dependent on the number of students in Jewish day schools and undergraduate colleges. Tuition ranges from 15% of adjusted gross income for families with one student, down to 7% per student for families with four or more students, based on the chart below:

Number of Eligible Students Tuition Per Student as Percentage of Adjusted Gross Income
1 15%
2 10%
3 8%
4 or more 7%

As an example, a family with income of $200,000 and one qualifying student would pay $30,000 in tuition; a family with similar income and four students would pay only $14,000 per student. The number of students includes all students in the family who attend either Jewish day schools or undergraduate collegiate programs, not just those attending Gann Academy.

This income scale applies during the student's entire career at Gann, with tuition re-set annually based only on family income and number of qualifying students, without regard to Gann's maximum tuition levels. Adjusted Gross Income is determined via tax returns for the year immediately preceding the school year.

Within Reach is available to students entering Gann in the 9th, 10th or 11th grade.

Frequently Asked Questions

List of 6 frequently asked questions.

  • Q: How can we apply to the program?

The Within Reach application is quite simple, with less information required than in traditional financial aid programs.  Simply fill out the one-page application along with a copy of your most recent tax returns, and return it to Gann Academy.  The application process is completely confidential and does not impact admissions decisions.
  • Q: What will my tuition be for my child's sophomore, junior, and senior years?

The Within Reach structure is guaranteed for your child's entire time at Gann Academy.  Provided you continue to meet the eligibility criteria for Within Reach, your tuition will continue to be based on the same percentage of adjusted gross income for the relevant number of qualifying students.  Even if your family situation changes, you can easily determine your tuition based on the Within Reach formula.
  • Q: What if we need more financial support than Within Reach would give us?

You are welcome to apply for traditional financial aid as well.  Gann Academy will consider all affordability programs which may apply to a student and will choose the program that provides the greatest amount of financial assistance.  Last year, Gann Academy awarded more than $3.5 million in financial aid to our students.
  • Q: What grades of students are eligible for this program?

Students applying for 9th, 10th, or 11th grade entry to Gann for September 2021 may apply for Within Reach and may continue in the program throughout their time at Gann.
  • Q: How is this financially possible for the school?

Within Reach is funded by generous donors who wish to make a Gann education more accessible to families across the economic spectrum.  Their gift enables Gann to ensure affordability programs without diverting financial resources from the school's academic and extracurricular programming.
  • Q: Who can I talk to about my affordability questions?

Any member of the admissions team can help answer questions about affordability, or you can speak with Amy Chandler-Nelson, Director of Business Operations, at 781.642.6800, ext. 113 for more information.
