Once an application has been filled out, we will be in touch to schedule an on-farm working interview. During the interview, participants will have a chance to ask questions about the program as well as to try working on the farm. Following the interview, staff will review the application and interview, check references, and be in touch as to whether the applicant has been accepted. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the cohort is full.
Please feel free to reach out to Gann Farmer Noah Weinberg, nweinberg@gannacademy.org, with any questions.

DATES AND TIMES
- Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm, and Fridays from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm.
- Beginning Wednesday, June 26, and ending Friday, August 2.
- If you are unable to be present for all 6 weeks of the program, don’t let that hold you back from applying. A commitment for three or four weeks of the six weeks could still work.
- Participants are encouraged to also join us for the 2-week Shomrei Adamah program from Tuesday, August 6, 2024, to Friday, August 16, 2024. Having completed the Apprenticeship, participants will become Peer Leaders during those additional two weeks of the season. See below for more information about Shomrei Adamah.
Program Components
WEDNESDAYS: Field Work sessions at Gann on the farm and the field kitchen. Immerse in the work of a small scale suburban farm at the height of the growing session, cultivating vegetables, herbs, flowers, a new fruit orchard, and chickens!
THURSDAYS: Visit local sustainable farms in the Greater Boston area and learn hands-on about a variety of farming and food justice practices in our region.
FRIDAYS: Harvest and arrange flower bouquets for distribution in Gann Farm Flower Share, which shares the abundant beauty of the land with our community just in time to have fresh flowers for Shabbat. Also, gather for international community time including Jewish learning, reflection, and preparation for Shabbat.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Rising 10th, 11th, and 12th graders, as well as those who just graduated from 12th grade.
- Can commit to at least three weeks of the six week program.
- This is a “get your hands dirty” experience! We will be doing hard work outdoors on hot summer days. Farm work is physically challenging (and rewarding)! Participants should arrive each day with motivation and energy - ready to jump into each day’s work.
- Self-identify as Jewish and interested in participating in a pluralistic Jewish community.
