Gann delegates at the National High School Model UN Conference in New York.
From March 13–16, our Model UN team traveled to New York City for the National High School Model United Nations (NHSMUN) conference, the world’s premier high school Model UN event. Students represented Madagascar and Japan across a wide range of committees, including Peacekeeping Operations, World Trade, and UNICEF, where they engaged in research, debate, negotiation, and collaborative problem-solving.
This year’s delegation was led by our four team captains — Jonathan G. ‘26, Molly S. ‘27, Noam N. ‘26, and Tommy G. ‘26 — who played a key role in preparing the group for weeks in advance and supporting them throughout the fast paced, high energy environment of committee sessions. Under their leadership, students wrote position papers, delivered formal speeches, worked with peers from around the world, and drafted resolutions addressing complex global issues.
Throughout the conference, our delegates demonstrated confidence, adaptability, and a genuine commitment to collaborative leadership. They built connections with peers from around the world, engaged thoughtfully with complex global issues, and represented Gann with pride. For many, the experience was a powerful reminder of how meaningful it is to step into challenging spaces, trust their preparation, and find their voice on an international stage.
A student reflection:
Molly S. ‘27 shared: “I was proud of myself for speaking in front of the committee without planning what I was going to say, and that I wrote parts of the working papers for both topics by myself without feeling like I needed outside approval.”
