PERFORMING ARTS

Gann’s performing arts program is designed to serve student-artists as producers, consumers, and performers. Our co-curricular program includes theatre, dance, and music. With both audition-based and open ensembles there are opportunities for students of all experience levels. Through participation in one or more of our ensembles, clubs, or classes, students learn how to collaborate, create, innovate, and explore new perspectives. They build muscles of compassion, commitment, work ethic, resilience, and teamwork.

Performing Arts: A Closer Look

Gann Arts in the Community

Our music ensembles perform regularly at school and community events! Past performance highlights include Gann’s a cappella group, Shenaniganns, singing the national anthem at Fenway Park for Jewish Heritage night, the Jazz Band’s middle and elementary school performances, the annual Hanukkah a cappella concert at the Vilna Shul, and of course our Spring and Winter Arts Festivals.

Red Curtain Drama Club

The Red Curtain Drama Club is Gann’s oldest and largest club. Each year, the club produces a play, a musical, and “Complete and Total Playhem,” our student-directed short play festival. Through RCDC productions Gann students can engage with theatre as actors, directors, designers, technicians, playwrights, and audiences. Student leadership is a hallmark of the club’s culture, including a student-centered play selection process, and the “Dramaton” (a drama club shabbaton). Red Curtain is a beloved part of many Gann students’ high school experiences.

Improv

Improv is not just a skill for the stage – saying “yes, and” is a skill for life! Gann’s improv team, Button Fly, practices the skills of improv with twice weekly rehearsals led by professional improv instructors and performs regularly at school and community events.

Dance Company

Gann’s dance company is an opportunity for both new and experienced dancers to study, appreciate, perform, and even choreograph in a wide range of styles and forms. Dance at Gann is taught by expert instructors and dancers perform moving and meaningful work rooted in the intersection of technique and identity.
