Jack Sivan ’14: Cut From the Right Cloth for a Career in Fashion

From handmade bowties at prom to red carpet moments, Jack Sivan’s journey into fashion design has been a steady climb powered by craft, community, and creative hustle.

His path—from the arts program at Gann Academy to RISD and now New York City—seems straightforward in hindsight. But along the way, Jack carved a niche that’s all his own. The spark began during his senior year Ma’avar project with Talia (Rubin) Wyschogrod ’14, where the two self-taught designers created and showed a collection, marking Jack’s first foray beyond neckwear.

At RISD, Jack learned to both design and create apparel. He took these skills to NYC, where he joined a menswear incubator and worked at other apparel companies before starting his own business, Sivan.

2024 was a year of growth for Jack and his eponymous label. In January, he launched his first runway show, which quickly led to additional presentations, editorial features, and growing buzz. A stylist’s satisfied client, actor and producer Ato Essandoh, became the first celebrity to wear Jack’s work at a major event. Word spread fast. When the New York Times Style section spotlighted that evening, Jack’s brand stood out as the only one without European heritage—a highlight reel moment.

Today, Jack’s brand has landed its first store order, with small production runs out of two Midtown factories and a Chicago shop that values his agile, hands-on approach. “I’m very much a product development person,” Jack says. From initial concept to factory blueprint, he does the work of five roles, adding entrepreneur to his already long resume.

Throughout Jack’s career, Judaism has been a consistent thread. An active member of Brown/RISD Hillel, Jack stays connected to his Judaism through Shabbat dinners with close friends and attending shul with his wife. He enjoyed coming back to Gann in June 2025 for his youngest sister Libby’s graduation.
