World Languages Students Explore Immigration Laws

The week of April 15, multiple world language classes traveled with World Languages faculty, Elena Morgan and Michelle Langwieder, to the Rian Immigrant Center, Boston’s welcome center for immigrants and refugees, in Boston for a deep dive into immigration.

Students met with two immigration attorneys at Rian who shared insights on immigration law, the immigration process, challenges many immigrants face today, and the services Rian provides. Additionally, students learned about volunteer opportunities at Rian and how they could use their French and Spanish skills to support Rian’s work.

They then headed to the Moakley Courthouse for a tour and interactive naturalization quiz, where students learned more about the judicial system and process, as well as the roles within a courtroom, reflecting on the intersection between immigration and justice.
